Solace
Annie Halpin’s Solace explores girlhood, healing, and body image in a series of oil paintings on canvas. A careful examination looking inward, the exhibition feels like seeing the artist’s own self-reflection in real time.
Even when depicting friends in pairs, shared moments of contemporary commonplace activities, like painting nails and bedrotting, become introspective.
A quiet hunger lingers throughout Halpin’s work, but the title implies that there is comfort at our finger tips in these moments of disquiet. Be it through the familial-like bonds of femme friendship or from the understanding and acceptance of ourselves we can find through careful introspection, Halpin seems to promise us that solace can be found.
Join us for the opening reception of this solo exhibition on September 11 from 5-9pm at Art City.
