"Chicago Street Portrait #4" by David Alton

16x20"

From the artist: "Born and raised in Chicago, my work begins with images rather than predetermined narratives. Through accumulation, juxtaposition, and revision, relationships emerge and stories reveal themselves. Using figurative imagery, symbolic animals, books, objects, and fragments of contemporary life, I create paintings that invite viewers to participate in the discovery of meaning. The resulting works balance humor, ambiguity, memory, and social observation while encouraging multiple interpretations. Influenced by collage, literature, and observation of everyday life, my paintings balance visual playfulness with psychological depth. The resulting narratives are often ambiguous, reflecting the fragmented and often contradictory nature of contemporary experience."
