Requiem Trio: HOLD-For The Constitution
John Terdich presents Requiem Trio: HOLD-For The Constitution, an installation that considers the balance of power within our government. After John Terdich’s brother died in 1990, he created and exhibited the installation, Requiem Quartet: HOLD, as a memorial for him and other victims of AIDS. Using the same format over one year in 2022, he staged and photographed Requiem Quartet: HOLD-The Four Seasons, which explored the changing environment.
Alongside this multi-media installation, Terdich will also have on view the Pounce Pattern Series: Under the Surface. Starting in 2015, this series uses pounce patterns, a traditional drafting technique used by muralists, sign painters, and artisans, where a design is drawn on paper and then perforated by various methods. Once perforated, the image on this paper can be transferred to another surface by dusting powdered pigments through the perforations. In this series, Terdich explores political, religious, scientific, or philosophical questions, while also offering homage to important cultural or artistic figures.
John Terdich was trained in two-dimensional media such as drawing and painting. He uses multiple different mediums for his current body of work. His work considers the delicate state of our world, nature and the environment, society and its institutions, our relationship to each other, and our relationship to it all over time.
Opening reception 5-9pm at Art City on August 14, 2026.
