Loom Beading (11,570 Toho Aiko beads + fishing line), 5x9"

Yuliya Klochan is a Ukrainian-born, disabled artist based in Chicago. For more than ten years, she worked as a multimedia writer and health journalist. Now, Yuliya makes beadwork using traditional Ukrainian weaving—though her writing background still inspires her art.

As an immigrant, queer, and disabled artist, Klochan strives to create works that center social justice and inclusivity with the rare “perfect cylinder” Toho Aiko beads, woven together with strong fishing line. Up to 15,000 beads are used per piece to create unique textures and gleams.
