Douglas Hickman Jr. is a multidisciplinary artist whose work exists at the intersection of architecture, memory, history, and Black cultural expression. Originally from Chicago, IL., Hickman studied Vocal Performance at Dillard University in New Orleans before continuing his education in Architecture at Southern University. His background in architecture and love of music informs a practice that combines architectural structure with historical research and layered mixed media techniques. His experience in design, styling, and the built environment expands his visual language beyond the traditional boundaries of fine art. Before dedicating his career to visual art, Hickman spent more than fifteen years as a celebrity stylist living in New York City and Los Angeles. He’s collaborated with artists, entertainers, fashion houses, film productions, television projects, and music industry clients. This work shaped a visual language grounded in cultural composition and stylistic storytelling. Influenced by the visual legacy of America and informed by contemporary cultural discourse, Hickman’s work resists easy categorization. Instead, it creates space for reflection- asking viewers to reconsider familiar histories, recognize overlooked narratives, and imagine new possibilities for the future.
