Through my work, I explore the complexities of emotions shaped by experiences. I aim to depict intimacy and vulnerability. This piece reflects the emotional weight of offering one's soul to another, only to be met with inevitable disappointment. I also explore my relationship with myself as a Black woman who has battled insecurity, abuse, insatiability and an obsessive pursuit of perfection. I begin with oil paint to establish the image I envision, building structure and intention. I then disrupt the foundation with oil pastels, intentionally straying from perfection as an act of resistance - embracing imperfection, healing and self-reclamation through colorful visuals.
