Danny Flynn is a self-taught folk artist whose work uses bold colors and simple shapes to explore themes of anxiety and depression, joy and family, and the unsettling familiarity of empty, liminal spaces. “Please feel to have a seat outside while this house becomes a home,” developed from their own experience with depression.
While this experience can feel like a dark cloud hovering over their home, their work also reflects the perspective gained from it: bright yellow light radiates from the windows, serving as a reminder of the joy, love, and life that exist within. This emotional cycle—moving through depression and emerging into light and warmth—closely mirrors the transition from winter into spring, which is why they chose to submit the piece for this exhibition.
